Villa's Terrace Trophy - an award synonymous with the club for two decades - has made a cracking comeback. Although the original trophy was mislaid some years ago, an impressive new one was commissioned by the club. Sponsored by Thomas Cook Sport, the trophy was awarded for the first time to Stiliyan Petrov as the popular midfield star won the inaugural Lions Clubs' Player of the Year. "The Terrace Trophy was hugely popular in its day and we're delighted it has been revived," said Lions Club liaison officer Alan Perrins. "The new trophy has been made in the Jewellery Quarter by Vaughtons, the company who produce FA Cup and league championship medals." The original Terrace Trophy was synonymous with Villa for two decades. The first winner was Nigel Sims in 1958, while Dennis Mortimer was the final recipient in 1977. Villa's 1982 European Cup winning captain is now the Lions Club patron. |
